Fiona’s Father

Her father, Josef Widawski, before the war.

What happened to your family during the Holocaust?

My father was deported from Ozorkow to the ghetto of Łódź from 01.05.40-15.8.44, then to Auschwitz until end of September. After that point, he was sent to Germany to Braunschweig/ Ravensbruck until February 1945, and then to Wöbblin Aussenlager of Neugammen. After liberation, he was sent to DP camp Bergen Belsen. From there, I believe he went to a DP camp in Bamberg and stayed in this city.

What would you like the world to know about your father?

He was the best Dad!

How do you think the legacy of the Holocaust has affected you and your family?

You grow up with a different mindset. I could always feel the fear of my father that history could repeat itself.
